Introduction
This is a distance
e-learning education program for candidates who wish to become
legible to enter the International board lactation consultant
exam to become certified lactation consultants
General Course Objectives course
:
·
To
increase the participants scientific knowledge of lactation and
enhance their practical skills for protection, promotion and
support of breastfeeding
·
To
develop and supplement the clinical diagnostic and management
skills of medical professionals caring for breastfeeding mothers and
babies in different situations, whether in health or disease
and at any time from conception to the weaning age.
·
To
orient participants of the global breastfeeding situation, current
breastfeeding promotion program and initiatives worldwide and
develop their planning, project management and leadership skills in
this respect. The latter is particularly needed for boosting baby
friendly hospitals code implementation, maternity rights and
child rights to accepted standards of care and nutrition.
Who can participate?
The education program is designed for practicing physicians and
other health professionals including the pediatricians,
obstetricians, neonatologists, family physicians, primary health
care workers involved in infant feeding and maternal and child
health (MCH) programs. Proficiency in English is a primary
requirement since all the study material is in English. Candidates
who wish to apply to sit for the IBLCE exam in Egypt.
Course Content and Organization
The course contains the following seven learning modules
( for local participants) .
Module 1:
Training in internet & computer skills.
Module 2:
Training in Breastfeeding Counseling.
Module 3 :
Anatomy , physiology ,Infant feeding anatomy , breast condition ,
problems in milk production , socio cultural influences on infant
feeding ,normal nutrition
Module 4:
Biochemistry , neonatology diseases pharmacology of
breastfeeding equipment , technology teaching .
Module 5:
Maternal and Infant pathology, growth parameters and
development milestones .
Module 6:
Public Health & advocacy, interpretation of research ,ethical &
legal issues CRC , ILO International Code of Marketing of Breast
Milk Substitutes .
Module 7:
Personal , perinatal practices that support breast feeding issues in
early weeks , beyond fifth month , and into the second year , Family
planning and LAM , religious perspectives in infant feeding , child
care , infant feeding in emergency
Course Participants
The education program is designed for doctors and other senior
health professionals including pediatricians, neonatologists ,family
physicians , primary health care workers involved in infant feeding
and maternal and child health ( MCH) program
Course Duration :
-
For local residents in Egypt: Six months with
one module/workshop per month.

For non residents : One month (In addition to
the distance learning program).
Course Date: To be decided (according to number of participants).

Fees for education program:

The fees for attending the
7 workshops for the local national certificate
=1500 LE which includes tutoring mentoring ,
breaks ,study material ( looks, videos and CDs)
and local exam fees

The fees don’t include
application to (International) IBLCE exam

immediately .

Teaching Methods:
The education
program is divided into contact teaching and distance e-learning
hours
·
The
contact teaching hours include lectures from international
and national experts, group discussions ,presentations , role play ,
and sessions with mothers and babies in class room and clinical
placement sites .

The
distance e-learning hours include clinical assignments through websites and contacts with
international experts to mentor the candidates through email.
Training Methodology and
Facilitators
The applied
learning methods are relevant, interactive and suitable to the
learning objectives. This includes lecture/ discussions, group
discussions individual and group exercises; demonstrations;
field visits; case studies.
Applicants
should submit:

The
enclosed application form, duly completed.

A
certificate of proficiency in the English language (for
applicants from non-English speaking countries).

The
Management Board will only consider fully documented
applications.
Applicants
will be informed about acceptance in proper time before the
course. Places are limited to 20 and offered to suitable
qualified candidates who secure the financial support.
