Introduction
Nutrition is considered an
integral part of patient care, along with medical, physical,
social and psychiatric aspects. For many patients food and
nutrition therapy is the single factor or one of several factors
used to restore good health. In many cases nutrition therapy may
even replace drug therapy. It is quite noticeable that well
qualified, well trained health care professionals able to meet
nutritional needs of patients are rare and scarce in number
within the region. This not only includes dietitians but also
qualified well trained physicians and nurses whose
responsibility towards patients requires their understanding of
the relation between nutrition and diseases and the importance
and methods of adequate and suitable nutrition therapy of
patients.
